9am NASD Launch Ceremony
Port Chester Middle School         Superintendent of Schools  Dr. Donald Carlisle was joined by all Port Chester School Principals, state and local officials, members of the Port Chester Council for the Arts and Tony and Emmy award-winning actress, former Director of the NEA - Jane Alexander, and Academy Award-winning movie director Chris Wedge, creator of the modern classic animated films Ice Age, Ice Age: The Meltdown, and Robots  - all supporters of NASD. 

9:30 am
Academy Award-winning film director Chris Wedge, executive producer of Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!, led a creative presentation on the art of film animation to PCMS students.

  2008 Launch Day

Port Chester, New York

   

The 2008 year one pilot program kicked off  at the Port Chester Middle School in Port Chester, New York, with a morning media event and remarks by local and state government representatives,  school district officials and nationally-renowned guest artists.

          

Professional storyteller Jonathan Kruk;  Port Chester Librarian as Frieda Kahlo; Middle School Principal Carmen Macchia with actor Lou DelBianco; and PCMS teacher.

 

 

NASD Executive Director Ann Peterson; Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano; former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, award-winning actress Jane Alexander; Martin Rogowsky; Camille Linen; and creator of the animated films Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who! (2008), Ice Age and Robots (2005), Academy Award-winning movie director Chris Wedge.

First Annual Arts Advocate Award Recipients

Jane Alexander and Chris Wedge

           

 

Ms. Alexander's award was a pen and ink drawing by Port Chester High School student Alex Calero depicting Jane Alexander and James Earl Jones as they appeared in the Broadway play The Great White Hope.    JFK students Zeltzin Sanchez and Abraham Forero presented Mr. Wedge with a framed print of animation cell scenes created by the John F. Kennedy Magnet School's Animation: Minds In Motion animation workshop presented by Westchester’s Jacob Burns Film Center.
