NATIONAL ARTS IN THE SCHOOL DAY

All Port Chester public schools are participating in the first NATIONAL ARTS IN THE SCHOOL DAY. Photographers and videographers will be documenting the activities at all six schools, which will be posted on the website for all to view.

9:00 am - NASD Launch ceremony
Port Chester Middle School, 113 Bowman Avenue: Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Donald Carlisle will be joined by all Port Chester School Principals, state and local officials, members of the Port Chester Council for the Arts and Tony and Emmy award-winning actress, former Director of The National Endowment for the Arts, Jane Alexander, and Academy Award-winning movie director Chris Wedge, creator of the modern classic animated films Ice Age, Ice Age: The Meltdown, and Robots - all supporters of NASD.
9:30 am
Academy Award-winning film director Chris Wedge, executive producer of Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who, will lead a creative presentation on the art of film animation.
10:00 am - Port Chester Special Arts Initiatives Begin

- Kids and teachers come dressed as a character in a famous painting
- Grade 6: Exploring Native American Culture:
Create Native American Sand Art
- Grade 7: Exploring China and its Culture:
Create personal Zodiac Drawings of the Chinese New Year
- Grade 8: Exploring Mexico and its culture:
Create Masks worn on the Day of the Dead
Port Chester High School:
- Paintings of the Lewis & Clark Expedition
- Music Composition Junior & Senior Workshops
- Screenwriting Workshop:
Reel Writing presented by Jacob Burns Film Center
6:00 pm - Crawford Mansion at Crawford Park
Wednesday evening "Thank You" event for supporters of this first NATIONAL ARTS IN THE SCHOOL DAY, including announcement of plans for the 2009 NASD.
